Yoru is the sweet and innocent main character of "Night Shot". He was born with strange cat-like ears and a tail. For this, he is sometimes made fun of. Yoru is very bright, but his physical abilities are limited. He likes to play video games and do other things that normal 14-year-old boys like to do. He is shy and he doesn't have any friends or crushes. Yoru was adopted by a man named Keisuke Yamada and knows nothing of his real parents.

Sakuban is another with ears and a tail like Yoru, and the first one of which Yoru ever remembers seeing. Sakuban takes Yoru to another world and tells him that Yoru was born there, and it's his true home. Sakuban claims to be Yoru's long lost brother and he says that both their parents died in a war that lasted eleven months. Sakuban has a unique power to create living creatures. Where did he get such an ability?

Go, at first, teases Yoru about his ears, but later befriends him. Go and Yoru end up becoming like close brothers though out the story. At first, Go is mysterious to Yoru. He does not talk about himself, his family or his friends. For some reason, they are both very interested in knowing more about each other.

Naito has a very similar appearance as Yoru, including his height, age and hair colors. Little is known about Naito, but it is sensed that there is some sort of connection between Yoru and him.

Although his exact age is unknown, Shirogane is over 50. Strangely enough, Shirogane appears to be quite young. His subordinates call him “Father” and he appears to be after Yoru for an unknown reason.

Chibiban was originally created to look after Yoru. He appears to be a cute, mouse or cat-like creature, but when ready to fight, he transforms into a large beast. Sakuban created Chibiban, which is obvious because of their color resemblance.

Weapons

Ryohara Shirogane, with the help of Yamada Sr., invented artificial beings to be secretly used in wars across the country. Originally, the weapons were made from previously normal people. The first ever successful weapon was Shirogane’s own sister. After the transformation, she survived several years before finally dying when her body ceased to function completely.

Sakuban, or “The Creator”, is the oldest living weapon, and the first of a series of perfectly functioning, capable beings. Sakuban, currently age 19, is still perfectly healthy and his body shows no signs of shutting down. He was turned into a weapon at a young age and remembers nothing before the operation. His weapon name is “Creator” because he has the unique ability to create other living organisms using only his own blood and dirt, water or plants. Some of his creations decompose quickly, while others remain alive like a normal living organism. Although Sakuban is powerful, he tends to let his creatures do most of the battling.

“The Destroyer”, or simply “Destroyer”, was the first artificially made weapon. This means that he was never a normal being, he was created scientifically and born a weapon. Even though he was a creation, he has emotions. In fact, at times he even seems to be over-emotional. He is lacking certain seemingly useless qualities such as the ability to taste or have dreams. He can, however, smell and see quite accurately. Destroyer’s abilities include rapid healing, regeneration of most body parts and the ability to quickly easily decompose/kill/destroy his target.

“Night Shot” is said to be Shirogane’s finest work. The youngest of the weapons when the story begins, Night Shot is actually two beings: Yoru and Naito, and remains in “seperated” form most of the series. When combined, Night Shot has two levels of choice. Both levels are exceptionally powerful, but very different in terms of the “mergence” that Naito and Yoru undergo.

“Aeon” is a weapon currenty under construction by Shirogane. Little is known about this new weapon.
